Jace Carter | Horizon All-Freshman Team

UIC’s  Jace Carter was recognized by the Horizon League coaches as a selection on the All-Freshman Team.

Carter became the first Flame to land on the All-Freshman Team since Tarkus Ferguson and Dominique Matthews did in 2016-17 after bounced back in the second half of the season for the Flames. The freshman, who missed nine consecutive games prior to New Years due to an injury, ranks fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.9 rebounds per game and second in rebounds with 5.1 per contest.

Carter has scored 10 or more points in seven contests, all against Horizon League opponents, including a season high 17 points at Youngstown State. The 17-point effort was in the middle of a three-game stretch in which Carter scored 10 or more points in each game, resulting in Carter’s first Horizon League Freshman of the Week honor this season.

Despite missing nine games with the injury, Carter is tied for fourth on the team with 97 total rebounds this year, and second with 41 on the offensive glass. The freshman brought in a season-high 10 rebounds in UIC’s regular season finale against Milwaukee, including five on the offensive end of the floor. Carter hauled in at least six rebounds on 10 occasions this year, and fell a rebound shy of a double-double in a win at Green Bay (15 points, 9 rebounds).
