Our team had a great month of basketball in June. The first three weeks of June we did not play in any events or team camps, rather we focused on improving as a team during our workouts three days a week.
On June 23 we took a select group of 12 players to Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach to play three games. This was a very good experience to put what we have been working on to the test before heading down to the Summer Shootout Team Camp in Fort Myers, FL the following week. The Embry-Riddle camp also gave us a chance to take and showcase a few additional players who have been working hard all summer.
On June 26 we loaded up and headed to Fort Myers, FL to participate in the Summer Shootout for the second consecutive summer. We took 11 players down with us to compete in the three-day camp. Our first night in town we took the team to a Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse to prepare for a fun week of hoops.
The War Eagles played very well all weekend. The first two days of the camp, we finished 6-0 and received the #1 seed in our bracket for the tournament on Saturday. We made it all the way to the Final Four where we came up short, giving up the lead for the first time in the game in the closing minutes to the eventual champion, Nature Coast Tech.
In our 12 games combined all summer, our record was 10-2. While our summers aren’t and will never be measured by wins and losses, our coaching staff is very proud of our guys for how hard they worked and competed all of June.
Workouts will resume the second week of July after giving them all a much deserved week off.
